How do I fix malware issues found by ImunifyAV?

As malware becomes increasingly more sophisticated and widespread it’s important to stay ahead of the latest internet threats.

At ProStack, we provide managed hosting solutions designed to put your site security first, including firewalls, brute-force detection, and account-level isolation.

Offering that extra level of protection, we use ImunifyAV, a security solution that protects from different malicious attacks, bad bots, and malware.

For our shared customers we provide Imunify360 server-wide. Dedicated and cloud customers can have the option to install ImunifyAV or purchase the Imunify360 package.

Step 1 - Review list of files via Imunify control panel

Shared customers can access ImunifyAV from their cPanel accounts. Once logged into your cPanel account, scroll down to the "Security" section and click on "Imunify360/ImunifyAV".

For our customers using our Cito servers, you can log in to the ImnuifyAV control panel by running pslist.  This option can be used when logged in using the server’s admin credentials.

On the ImunifyAV dashboard, you can review your files, by clicking on "Malware Scanner" and then "Files".

Step 2  - How do I clean up malicious files?

For customers using ImunifyAV, you can locate the Malicious files in the ImunifyAV dashboard, but you will need to manually clean them up "File Manager".

Imunify360 customers will have a “clean up” (the broom icon) option in the control panel, which attempts to clean the malware automatically. In case you wish to view the files that were detected use the "eye" icon to view the infection.

We recommend you to check the detected files manually via File Manager before attempting a "clean up" as there maybe false-positives. In such cases, the falsely reported files can be added to the IGNORE LIST, so that they are excluded from future malware scans.

Step 3 - Make sure plugins are up-to-date

Sites are often re-targeted once they have been infected, so it's important to make sure you are up-to-date on the latest plugins available.

  • Make sure to change passwords for all site users/cPanel/etc.
  • Frequently update your site and any plugins.
