Helping Pleasure Beach Resort transform for the digital era

Pleasure Beach Resort has been delivering brilliant guest experiences since it opened its doors in 1896. Yet unlike in 1896, these experiences now happen in the park and online.

In 2024, the Resort had a vision: to unify the on- and offline, creating a seamless digital ecosystem that enhanced the in-park experience. This would mean introducing lots of exciting new features, like e-ticketing, virtual queuing, and an interactive mobile app.

  • Cito Cloud Servers
  • High Availability
  • Monarx Active Protection
  • PCI Compliance

A new vision for one of Blackpool’s best-known attractions

The Resort’s online infrastructure – a multi-server solution based on cPanel – had served them well for years. But, certain barriers (like needing individual logins for each site and application) meant that it was no longer fit for purpose. Plus, cPanel’s increasing license fees made it expensive to run.

Having worked with the Resort for more than five years at this point, we were really on board with the team’s digital transformation vision. Plus, they trusted us to handle such a large and complex migration in time for their upcoming peak season.

Introducing Cito in time for summer

When it came to choosing the right solution for the Resort, we were confident that our proprietary hosting platform, Cito, ticked the following boxes:

  • Joint marketing

    Reliable performance

during spikes in site traffic, which were common during the summer months and school holidays.

  • Server Icon

    Total scalability of resources

with the flexibility to deploy new applications and services (without third-party licensing fees).

  • Camera Monitoring

    Better visibility and control

over the Resort’s digital ecosystem, which included everything from e-commerce sites to internal sales systems.

So, we started migrating the Resort’s digital ecosystem across. We used a phased approach, starting with the least critical sites and giving the Resort’s technical team a chance to test everything as we went. Finally, we migrated the main database over an evening, keeping the disruption minimal for any guests late-night browsing.

What we achieved together

Within just a few months, we had Pleasure Beach Resort’s online services running on Cito.

What does this mean for the team today? With a centralised dashboard and clean interface, they can now save time when managing their server health. Plus, they’ve been able to cut operational costs by eliminating their cPanel licensing fees, in favour of a solution that supports their business growth.

Most importantly, the team can provide a top-notch digital experience to every guest, even during traffic spikes. These stats say it all!

Looking ahead with Pleasure Beach Resort

As the Resort prepares for its next peak season, Cito gives what Web Systems Manager Alex describes as “the perfect foundation to build on”. The team can now grow their digital ecosystem confidently, knowing that their guests will always have a great time online or in the park.

And, as they do, we’re proud to stay on as their trusted technical partner.
