FAQs
What’s the difference between .uk and .co.uk?
They’re run by the same registry, Nominet, on the same terms and at the same price. .co.uk is the one most UK visitors expect and type without thinking. .uk is shorter and newer. If both are free, plenty of businesses register the pair and point one at the other.
Do I have to be in the UK to register a .uk domain?
No. Nominet doesn’t restrict .uk, .co.uk, .org.uk or .me.uk to UK residents or companies. Nominet’s Rules of Registration still apply, and you’ll need to give accurate contact details.
How do I transfer a .uk domain to Prostack?
Order the transfer through the portal, then ask your current registrar to change the domain’s IPS tag to ours (we’ll confirm the tag on the order). .uk transfers don’t use authorisation codes, most complete within a few hours, and the transfer is free. Your existing expiry date carries over.
Do I need to host with Prostack to register a domain?
No. You can register a domain on its own and point it wherever you like. If you do host with us, the domain sits in the same client area as the rest of your services.
I’ve got the domain. How do I get a website on it?
Our cPanel shared hosting plans come with site-building tools and one-click WordPress installs, so you can put a site together yourself without touching code. For a bespoke design or a bigger build, our Agency Partners design and build sites on our platform, and we’re happy to put you in touch.
What happens when my domain is due to renew?
We email you at least 30 days before the renewal date. Renewal is the same price as registration. If a domain isn’t renewed it stops resolving after expiry, and Nominet deletes it after a grace period, so it’s worth keeping the contact email current.
Can you register .ltd.uk, .plc.uk or .sch.uk?
Not through the portal. Those extensions have eligibility rules and a manual step at Nominet. Get in touch and we’ll handle it by hand.
Are the prices inclusive of VAT?
No. Prices on this page exclude VAT, and the portal adds it at checkout. Multi-year registrations of up to nine years are available at the yearly rate.
The bit Nominet asks us to tell you
Prostack is a Nominet Accredited Channel Partner. When you register a .uk, .co.uk, .org.uk or .me.uk domain through us you enter into two contracts: one with us, under the Domain Name Services section of our Terms of Service, and one with Nominet, the registry for the .uk namespace, under Nominet’s Terms and Conditions of Domain Name Registration. Both apply when the domain is registered and again each time it renews.

Renewals and expiry. We email the account holder at least 30 days before a domain is due to renew. A domain that isn’t renewed stops working at expiry and is deleted by Nominet after its grace period, so keep the contact details on the account current.
Complaints. If we’ve got something wrong, raise it with us first and we’ll fix it. If you’re not happy with how we handled it, Nominet runs an independent complaints procedure for .uk registrants.
