Getting under the hood of ProStack’s Server MOT Service

Think of a server MOT as a health check for your servers. It’s designed to give you insights and actionable advice to keep your servers running at peak performance. Behind the scenes, we’ve created a process that provides useful tips and suggestions without making changes to your server environment that could cause any disruptions.

How the Server MOT works

Our Server MOT service is structured in three simple steps:

  • Check-up and investigation
  • Remediation
  • Advisories

We run through a series of checks looking at service continuity on your server, checking it’s still in tip-top health and adjusting accordingly, ensuring there hasn’t been any configuration drift or changes from updates or upgrades and bringing things back in-line otherwise.

After we’ve ensured everything is in-line, we then run through performance checks to ensure it’s performing both as expected and to see if there’s anything else we can squeeze out with simple non-breaking changes. This would include tweaking relevant MySQL tunables, PHP settings like OPcache as well as the underlying Linux kernel parameters.

After we’ve performed these, we then look at anything that would be advised to change but isn’t something we’d do unattended- these will include things like adding caching plugins that integrate with the server’s Redis or Memcached instances to improve performance and TTFB. These can sometimes be incompatible with sites and so it’s often best to test and tune appropriately with clients on an individual basis.

Other advisories may be that you’re short on disk space, low on RAM or are using high amounts of CPU that could be affecting performance.

We then provide a breakdown of works performed and the checklist for the Server MOT; listing anything advisory or important right at the top in plain English.

We also open a ticket directly with you for any dialogue or related communication should you need assistance setting up things like caching plugins or need further information.
