What does it mean to end support?
Each version of PHP has support for 3 years, before becoming “end of life” (EOL). Once a version is EOL, it stops receiving security and bug fixes, and is no longer supported by the PHP team.
This means that if a critical bug, or security vulnerability is discovered, it will not be patched in the unsupported version.
It’s important to ensure your sites are running the latest version of PHP possible.

Are you no longer supporting PHP 7.4?
At ProStack, we will continue to allow customers to use PHP 7.4 for as long as they require. However, we strongly recommend you look at upgrading to the latest stable version of PHP, which at the time of writing is 8.1.
Running older versions of PHP can leave your sites vulnerable to security issues, and you won’t benefit from any patches for critical bugs.
New versions of PHP often have performance improvements which can help speed up your sites, too.
How do I know if my site supports the newest version of PHP?
If your site is running a popular CMS such as WordPress, Craft or Magento, their release notes will tell you if PHP is supported.
For example, the latest version of WordPress fully supports PHP 8.1. We always recommend ensuring your WordPress site is up to date. It’s also important to check that your plugins are compatible as well, as these are often maintained on a separate schedule to the core WordPress application.
Fortunately changing your site’s PHP version (and switching back) is straightforward and simple. This leads us on to…
