We’re thrilled to announce an upgrade to ProStack’s backup service, which is included with your managed hosting. After extensive testing, we are excited to introduce our new solution, based on the popular open-source backup tool, Restic.
Why Restic?
Our previous backup solution, R1Soft, served us well, but we recognised the need for improvements in speed, security, and reliability. Restic delivers on all these fronts, making it the ideal choice for our upgraded backup solution. We’ve invested considerable effort into tooling and monitoring for our Restic platform to ensure backups are taken quickly and consistently.
Faster Backups
Restic offers significantly faster backup completion times compared to R1Soft, and uses considerably less resources.
This ensures that your data is protected quickly and efficiently, improving overall system performance.
We can now offer more fine-grained control over what and when backups run, thanks to significantly improved performance and efficiency. This enhancement allows backups to run smoothly on the same hardware, with the flexibility to offer custom retention policies.
Speedy Restores
In addition to faster backups, Restic also excels in restoring data swiftly. If disaster strikes, the ability to restore data quickly is crucial to minimise downtime and maintain business continuity.
Restic’s optimised restore processes allow you to recover lost data in a fraction of the time it used to take with R1Soft.
Seamless transition and continuous support
We carried out the migration from R1soft to Restic behind the scenes, without any loss of backup service.
Restic is now in production, and we have successfully transitioned your backup policies without any interruptions.
